Check Mate – The Hidden Land of Iccilia ( final #4) #Ren

Welcome to week 4 of the October Blogfest – Rule of Three

“Rule of Three is a month-long fiction blogfest, where we’ve created a ‘world’,the town of Renaissance, and challenged you to create a story within it. The story will feature 3 characters of your creation, who will be showcased on your blog on 3 different Wednesdays, following the Rule of Three. This being the 4th Wednesday, we’ll have the culminating scene.”

An invisible hand hovers over the last pieces on a chessboard.

Gorl charges  toward Raphilia’s dungeon; the sword’s dripping power of death so caustic it burns holes in the stone.

Raphalia holds Bostia in front of her “Strike as one, my invisible swordsmen”.  Gorl cannot see his adversaries but his magical powder, thrown in the air, glances off the shiny blades.  The swordsmen fall rapidly.   “Amoria, Stalwa your power is required now!” Raphalia shouts. Gorl advances  “You cannot withstand the power I wield.”   She shows no sign of defeat but the smell of death is pulling her down quickly.

Suddenly the air is fresh as spring. A commanding voice resonates. “You are such a fool Gorl. You have been since you were a child. Dont you know I could have destroyed you long ago?”

Magrid and Telmark sweep into the room, the power of Stalwa and Amoria deflect the evil blade. “Raphalia I am your brother… let’s join the stones to destroy this fiend.”  The fallen swordsmen rise to fight with a new fervor.

Gorl touches his black stone his eyes turning darker.   The swordsmen halt failing to strike at Gorl.   His black blade nicks Telmark.   Telmark staggers feeling his life energy drain.   “No” Magrid shrieks flinging herself at Gorl.  Gorl’s black blade thrusts and smokes as it hits Magrid.

“Don’t  look back Rapahlia; Gorl has an evil plan for Iccilia we must save it. Magrid knows…”

“But she is dying.” A tear falls from Raphalia’s eye

“Dont be too sure she commands the heart of the world,” the bird prince smiles

Gorl extends his arm to pull Telmark and Raphalia back into his clutches.   “Enough”, says Gorl’s Brother, “There will be no Queen’s Gambit here”.   He pulls Magrid  from Gorl’s seething grasp to himself.  Gorl’s brother waves his hand.   The swordsmen strike as one.   Gorl looks down in horror as his armor shakes, stops moving, and shatters into black dust.  Gorl points his finger at his brother and sneers “This is no game.”

A piece on the board moves by itself…

Horror is pasted on Raphali’a face “Iccilia where have you gone? Gorl you will pay for the misery you have inflicted upon my people.  Telmark I believed Iccilia would be safe if I went with Gorl. Alas”, “It is in ruins under Schlavona. This is my doing.”

“Sister please do not lose spirit with the power of the stones Iccilia will rise and the people will not remember their dark night under Gorl’s reign.”

Raphalia chuckles “you will no longer be a bird when that happens brother for you have proven your worth to my people and to yours. We share a strong and forgiving father.”

As brother and sister stand on a barren dessert, they hold Bostia, Amoria and Stalwa.

“Schlvona you are no more” Raphalia moves her hand and the sands receed and then vanish.

In it’s place are the beautiful, tall city  walls of Iccilia

“Espadron bring your life giving waters” Telemark cups his hand and it fills with water, at that moment he is bird no longer.

The waters flow and bring restored life to Iccilia. The music of Renaissance is heard in the backround.

A powerful voice shouts from the sky “Checkmate!  We are done, Gorl.   You are now a piece on my chess board – just part of the game”.

All that remains of Gorl’s world are the dark castles on two spaces of the chessboard…

…and an overlooked sword of death which will continue to drip destruction

  1. Loads of action to wrap this up with 🙂 Nicely done. I’m glad Telemark is no longer a bird – but I don’t think he suffered from the experience . .
